AnywhereCommerce Empowers Telefonica’s First Mobile POS Initiative

Ecuador’s Telefonica Movistar relies on AnywhereCommerce technologies to deliver secure EMV Chip-and-Signature services to merchants

MONTREAL, November 9, 2015 – AnywhereCommerce, a global payments solutions provider, announced it has signed an agreement with global service provider Telefonica to provide EMV technology to power its MPOS solution being marketed by Telefonica Movistar, the company’s operating company in Ecuador. Under the agreement, AnywhereCommerce’s Walker EMVCo certified Chip-and-Signature card acceptance device will be utilized with a mobile app to enable the acceptance of card-based payments using popular mobile devices.

“The MPOS solution lets merchants use the smartphones and tablets that have already become essential tools in retail businesses, to securely accept credit and debit card payments,” said Fernando Villagómez, MPOS product manager for Telefonica Movistar. “The partnership with AnywhereCommerce enables us to assure our business customers that their transactions are secured by technology that meets the most stringent global compliance requirements for financial data and card processing.

The MPOS service is compatible with iOS and Android mobile operating systems, and provides a convenient and secure tool for small and medium businesses to expand their operations. The service enables acceptance of all major international card brands, including Diners Club, AMEX, MasterCard, Visa, and Discover.

AnywhereCommerce’s Walker device accepts chip cards as well as traditional magnetic stripe cards. The device works seamlessly with the MPOS mobile app to process transactions using the cellular data connection of the smartphone or tablet. All transaction data and sensitive customer information is encrypted to reduce risk for merchants and consumers.

“We have worked closely with Telefonica and its initial bank partner, Banco Internacional, to ensure that the MPOS solution delivers the highest level of service and reliability to merchants throughout Ecuador,” said William Nichols, president and chief executive officer for AnywhereCommerce. “The feedback that we’ve received from users in Ecuador regarding the reliability and ease of use is excellent. AnywhereCommerce is eager to continue our partnership with Telefonica as it builds momentum with its mobile payments technology and services.”

Walker is an integral component of AnywhereCommerce’s mSuite portfolio of payment acceptance solutions, which incorporate the company’s patented audio-jack connection and encryption technology, and have been certified for compliance with EMVCo and PCI standards. mSuite features mobile apps, the aCommerce international gateway, an advanced management platform, merchant software applications, integration and development tools, and a range of card acceptance hardware for EMV (PIN and Signature), and magnetic stripe operation.
